Dear Kiara,

I wish I could give you a simple answer to your question. It is very difficult for me to diagnose your condition without actually seeing it.

Experiencing any type of pain in your mouth should be alarming to you. Your pain might be caused by a large cavity in your tooth that has already involved the nerve. Or it might be contributed to some general condition involving your gums, such as periodontal disease.

I would strongly recommend to have a consultation with a dentist asap. Once diagnosed, there are many options to treat the condition.

Sincerely yours,

Valentina Lyssova, DDS

My name is Kiara i am 21 years old, i just recently started feeling pain on the upper right of my gums towards the back of my mouth. Being that is so far back i cant see what it looks like but it feels as if my gums are tearing and there is a whole. I wasnt worried at first because i figure it was just a pitty cut but it has been getting bigger and more painful and i actually feel pain in my ear. i dont have any health insurance so i havent gone to a Dentist but do you think it is something i should worry about?

Dear Samantha,

Thank you for your question.

From your comment, I understand that currently you are wearing a complete denture on the top.

There are several options to make you satisfied with your upper prosthesis.

You can have your new dentures redone to fit properly. Complete dentures, though, always cover the palate (roof of your mouth).

Overdenture is a denture that sits over some structure - either a tooth or an implant. Considering that all your teeth were extracted 7 years ago, you could only have implant overdentures, dentures that sit over the implants.

The biggest advantage to have an implant overdenture is that with a sufficient number of implants, you can have a very comfortable, well-fitted denture without coverage of the roof of the mouth, so you can taste food better. It is less bulky as well.

The procedure is more costly and more time consuming, since you have to have the implants placed first, wait for them to heal, and then fabricate an overdenture. In order for me to give you a time frame, I would have to evaluate the existing condition of your mouth and decide on the final treatment.

We do offer oral sedation to help our patients overcome the fear of dental procedures.

None of these procedures are covered by Medicaid/Medicare, but we do offer financing.

Please, let me know if you have any further questions.

I am a 64 y/o woman and Diabetic. About 7 years ago I had all my upper teeth pulled and my dentist never fit them properly, he has since had his license remove and don't want to get into that now. I am scared to death and have major anxiety and stress when I visit the dentist. It has been a numvber of years since I've gone for that very reason and a number of other health issues. I am looking for over dentures I think. I have no teeth on the top and some on the bottom. Are over dentures regular ones or is the upper part of your mouth not covered. I have Medicare/Medicade. is this proceedure covered? How long does it take and is there some kind of sedative I can have administered? Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards.

Dear Bill,

There are many different options available. If there is not enough bone, there are procedures, such as bone grafting and augmentation, that are used to increase the amount of bone necessary for the placement of implants.

If you don't want to go through the bone grafting procedure, you can have a minimal number of implants placed in the areas where there is a sufficient amount of bone and then use these implants to retain a so-called implant retained partial denture.

In order to give you a more detailed information about your options, I would need to examine your mouth.

Please, call us at 212-849-8289 for a free consultation.

Regards,

Dr. Lyssova
